Nature... Our Responsibilities

Reading this article....some reflections and random thoughts.

As rightly it's never just Governmental responsibility to care for sustenance and preservation of good ecological system.  Rather it's everyone's, every single one's responsibility we owe to Mother Nature.

A moot question always is how as an individual could one do towards this end, forget about adding any incremental value to conserving our nature.  The irony is we are asking this in spite of the world, very near us, experiencing the heat, heat waves, heat stroke et al year on year.

Small acts from individual would go a long way. For, the adage is little drops make an ocean.  E.g. don't litter, segregate wastes at zero point, that's at home level, each-one-plant-one etc., etc.

We often hear complaints that there are scarce labour force available for core agri work. The main blame is they point to 100 days' minimum guaranteed work made available away from agri fields.  Why would anyone toil in poor paying agri work?  About a few years ago I was on annual visit to a village to attend an annual festival there.  That time around the big temple tank, people were engaging in tree planting and fencing them.  This was under the minimum 100 days' work guarantee scheme.  Sadly when in my next year's annual visit,  there were neither trees nor fences in those spots. My God, how we drain away public resources?  Who cares to oversee, productive implementation of such schemes? Least, the best to ask about any social audit.

Urgent and dire need for schemes and projects like Namami Ganga across Pan India.  Incentives and tax deductions for contribution to such projects can be considered by Honourable Finance Minister even under new regime of taxation as an exceptional case.

The Bombay High Court decision ordering of dismantling decorative lights on trees should be made a law Pan India. Once a dermatologist mentioned even ordinary tubelight radiates.  High powered decorative lights would only disorient the birds using the tree as shelter.

Maha Swami emphasized on Bhootha Dharma, shram dhan - in preservation of water bodies, tending to plants, trees, etc - atleast once a week by every able bodied individual.
