"....the language barrier has actually gotten blurred."., that's Tamanna Bhatia, the actor still raring to go, across multi lingua franca in an interview to a weekly supplementary.
Happy to hear back home our eight decades old 'Kandar Sashti Vizha Kazhagam' is into yet a new noble venture to facilitate Hindi learning.
I recall my grandfather, an MLA in late 1930s, used to urge, "learn Hindi".
Yesterday evening I was on my way back from Ramanalayam, Chrompet. Having driven long, felt like breaking for a filter coffee. Parked my vehicle and entered into A2B, heard it's soon going for IPO. Restaurant was milling with Singara Chennai 's foodies.
Chose an aloof corner table near food counter. Though there were many waiter/waitresses, mostly migrant, going hither and there none seemed to attend to me. Then hesitatingly came a waitress and asked me in very low decibel, hardly audible, "kya chahiye?".
I could handle such simple questions not requiring expertise in the language. Only if questions go bahut mushkil I need to muster, mobilise and use butler Hindi to answer back.
"Kya chahiye", being so easy, just two words, I queried back, " kya snacks milega?".
The waitress: " ji, bonda karam hai, ... Chahiye?".
My turn : "han, ek plate me kithna piece hain?"
Waitress: "do, 2".
So ordered a plate with coffee.
She first served the hot bonda. As I started my war with steamy bonda, the waitress asked, " coffee khane ke fir na".
I love tasting coffee paralelly ans said, "abhi chahiye".
She smiled and brought me the good, hot steamy caffeine.
When bidding adieu, saying to her, " dhanyavad, badiya service," and suffixed with my question, "Tamil malum hai".
The waitress - looked like Nepali, - chirped back, " main seekhne ka koshis karthi hoon."
Well,
Read recently a screaming headline and entailing article in a fortnightly. That plenty of jobs are available in Metro projects. With more freebies, the labour force from South is not turning up for such jobs in substantial scale. And their labour requirement is only half filled.
No wonder, the migrants make hay while the Sun brightly shines.
